Don’t we all have them? Days that slip through our fingers. It feels like 12 pm, but somehow it’s already 6 pm. Personally, I’ve had quite a few of them myself, and they always make me feel so unproductive. Over time, I've found a few small habits that help me get out of this feeling and make it feel like I get a little bit of my day back 😊

1. Start your morning without your phone

I know it’s tempting. I don’t even know how many times I’ve grabbed my phone before my eyes were even properly open. I’m still half asleep, checking messages, Instagram, and the news. Somehow, five minutes turn into twenty, and I feel even sleepier when I finally put my phone away.

When I don't do this, my morning feels completely different. I can get dressed, make coffee, journal, or just do nothing, without immediately knowing what the rest of the world is up to. For that first hour of the day, no one is really asking anything from me, and I can start my day before the rest of the world gets involved. It took some time to get used to, but now it’s probably my most peaceful moment of the day.

2. Give your day some structure

During that first quiet hour of the day, I also like to make a little plan. My most unproductive days are usually the ones where I have no idea what I’m doing. When I don’t have a plan, it’s way too easy to spend the day scrolling.

So, I write down a few things I want to get done and roughly plan when I will do them. It gives my day a little more structure without making it feel completely planned out.

3. Move your body

This is not always easy. I'm definitely not always motivated to work out, even though I know I will feel better afterwards. Even when I don’t feel like it, I still try to move my body, because it always makes me feel better, both physically and mentally. Also, I rarely regret working out. I do, however, regret it when I skip the workout.

4. Spend some time outside

I love cozy days, especially when it’s rainy and cloudy, and I can stay inside with some candles on. But when I’ve been inside for most of the day, getting some fresh air usually makes me feel so good. Sometimes, I literally put a chair in the garden. Or I go for a workout or a walk. Nothing complicated, just something that gets me outside for a while.

5. End the day by journaling

Honestly, nothing is as fun as doing your skincare, brushing your teeth, and then watching TikTok till you fall asleep. Countless times, I've woken up with my phone somewhere in my bed. I tried to stop doing it, which was very difficult, since I didn’t have an alternative, until I started journaling before bed. It gives me a chance to unwind, write down whatever is on my mind, and end the day feeling a little more satisfied.

Of course, I still have days when I do none of this and end up scrolling on my phone all day, wondering where the time went. But I’ve noticed that even a little effort makes me feel a lot better.

I don’t think having a good day means being productive from morning till night. Sometimes, doing a few things that make you feel good is enough to make the day feel a little better.
