My Perfect Reading Night

The perfect reading routine for a cozy night in

BOOKS

Every year, it’s the same. Somehow, I barely read during summer, but as soon as autumn arrives, I start flying through books again. I used to think it was just a coincidence, but I don’t really think that anymore.

There's something about reading when it’s cold, dark, and gloomy outside, while you’re warm and comfortable inside. That is why autumn always makes me want to start reading again. The days are getting shorter, the weather is getting colder, and somehow that makes me want to spend more time inside with a good book.

For me, a perfect reading night is not just picking up a book and starting to read it. It is about all the little things around it that make me want to stay for hours.

A perfect reading night starts with a shower. Then I put on my comfiest pyjamas, do my skincare, brush out my hair, and put it up in a hair clip. Basically, I’m getting myself as comfy as possible. It feels so good after a long day. Then, I turn off the lights in the living room and light up some candles. I love the soft crackling sound of a candle, by the way. It instantly makes everything feel cozier, calmer, and quieter, which is exactly what I need in the evening.

Our couch is basically perfect for this, because it’s always covered in warm blankets. I will grab some snacks, make my favorite cup of tea, and get my book. I will put my phone on Do Not Disturb, since I don’t need it this evening. And then I just settle in.

What can make this evening even better is heavy rain outside. I always leave the windows open so I can hear the rain. I know it sounds silly, but it makes the whole evening feel different. You’re inside, warm, comfortable, and cozy, while the rain is pouring down outside. It’s such a comforting feeling to not be needed anywhere and just spend some time by yourself. I think that’s probably what I love most about these evenings. There’s nowhere I need to be and nothing I need to do. I can just read, drink my tea, and enjoy being comfortable.

And honestly, there is just something about evenings like this that makes me really love life. It reminds me that for me, happiness really comes from the little things, like a warm blanket, a cup of tea, and the sound of rain outside. Maybe that’s why I love autumn so much.
